Find A Cheap Motels Without Compromising Your Comfort

I used to work for a large company with an expense account and a large budget to stay in large hotels. Since I started working for myself and traveling by car rather than by plane, I have found that I need to find a way to go everywhere and do everything I used to do for my old boss, but on a tight budget.

I found that the best way to do this is to lower my previous standards and accept 2-star quality Motel 6-type motels instead of Hilton and Marriott. You can usually reduce your bill by one package. Where I stay, I typically pay in a cheap motel range of $ 30 at the low end to a maximum of $ 50 at the high end of the range.

Save Money On Booking Of Weekly Motels

Over the course of a multi-day trip, you can save a lot of cash. Cost savings are positive, but there are downsides. Compared to name brand hotels, you are likely to find poorly cleaned rooms, razor-thin and undersized bath towels, a noisier environment, and the possibility of bed bugs and germs.

I came up with a routine that some would say is crazy, but if you are used to staying at best like me, it will allow you to save your money without sacrificing all your comfort or your health.

You May Carry Your Own Amenities To Save Money

When I travel I always carry my own pillow, a fitted sheet, a lightweight sleeping bag, a can of disinfectant spray, 2 towels and washcloths, and some plastic bags. Plus, slippers or flip-flops to protect your feet from dirty rugs, and a pair of earplugs in case you have noisy neighbors.

The first thing I do when I get to my room is grab one of the motel wipes and spray some disinfectant on it. Using the disinfectant and clean cloth, the TV remote control, the handset and the telephone buttons, all the switches for the lamps and lights, and the doorknobs.

Next, I remove the bedspread, blanket, pillow, and sheets from the bed and toss them in the corner. I put my sheet on the bed, then my sleeping bag and my pillow. Lastly, I turn my attention to the bathroom. The towels and washcloths they provide are generally wafer-thin and unsuitable for bathing, so use them for cleaning.

Sanitize Your Room & Bathroom Before Use

Sanitize the faucet handles in the sink and shower / tub, clean the tub or shower and toilet. I put the dirty cleaning towels in the corner and I hang the towels and face cloth.

I know this all sounds like a lot of work, but it really only takes about 15 minutes and is worth the peace of mind. Make sure to notify the front desk that you do not want maid service during your stay and hang up the do not disturb sign the next day so the maid does not try to undo your hard work. When you are ready to leave, put your towels and top sheet on a plastic bag and tie it securely to wash it thoroughly when you return home.
